Cork Tile Installation Instructions
Tiles must be placed starting in the center of the room and following towards the walls. If rectangular tiles are used, their longest side should be parallel with the direction of the light into the room.
Installation can be done following the scheme of either illustration 1 (making the tiles’ edges coincide row after row) or illustration 2 (alternating edges and centers of the tiles on each row.)
Contact adhesive has to be applied both on the tile and the pavement. Approximate glue quantity should be 200 gr. per square meter or 20 gr. per square foot. Drying time must be allowed before sticking the tiles, which must be pressed onto the floor from center to edges. During the installation the floor must be rolled to ensure adequate adhesion to the subfloor.
Usually tiles on the last line before reaching the wall have to be cut to measure with the aid of a knife or cutter.
The Tiles May also be installed using an adhesive such as APAC 564 White Universal Resilient Flooring Adhesive. This will eliminate the need to apply adhesive to both surfaces. Please follow adhesive manufacturers’ instructions for installation. (You will need a 3/32” v notch trowel.)
Maintenance Tips
To obtain the best results and extended durability from the sealed floor, a water based product or spray applied on a mop may be used. If wear on the floor’s varnish-coat begins to be noticeable, a restoring sealer, either matt or gloss, may be applied.

Black River Cork floorings, with their 3 coats of ultraviolet-dried acrylic varnish, have been subjected to 24-hour household-chemical endurance tests. The surface was later cleaned with water and detergent, leaving no noticeable change in the visual appearance of the surface. The household chemical products used were the following: lemon juice, cola soft-drink, red wine, spirits, liqueur, coffee, tea, water, olive oil, vinegar, ketchup, mustard, 10% sugar solution, toothpaste, shoe polish, window cleaner, painting wax, marker pen, lipstick, nail polish, mineral oil, ethanol (50%), fernox (10%) and renax (10%). |
